Jeff Whittington was born in Charlotte, N.C. in 1957. He comes from a large family of five children and two wonderful parents. Jeff showed a real interest in music at an early age. He was often playing records and singing until he received his first musical instrument while in the third grade. By the fifth grade he was playing trombone in the school band. In the 1960’s Jeff would often slip into his father’s, brother’s and uncle's closets. In each closet there was a guitar and so started his interest in the guitar. In 1969 Jeff’s live was changed forever, he discovered the 5-string banjo. After some serious practice and persistence he landed a guest spot on the world famous Grand Ole Opry. There he was exposed to a new instrument called the pedal steel guitar and in a few short months he was working on The Arthur Smith Show as a studio musician. |
Jeff has since worked on all types of projects including commercials, movie soundtracks, and private movie productions. Since that time, Jeff has learned to play many musical instruments including, hammer dulcimer, harmonica, mountain dulcimer, Autoharp, and Dobro. He is also a very talented vocalist. Jeff now makes his home in the Concord, N.C. area. He is happily married to Darnell Blackwelder Whittington. Jeff and Darnell have an adopted cat named Tabby. The Whittingtons enjoy traveling, boating, old movies, swimming, crossword puzzles, HGTV, and lots of other things. |
